Voters failed at election says top SLFP member

Fisheries Minister Mahinda AmaraweeraA leading member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and former Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says the public had failed to elect suitable candidates to Parliament at the last election.

Amaraweera said that several attempts had been made to change the existing electoral system but that attempt had failed.

However he said the public had been urged by the media, civil society and others to select suitable candidates to Parliament under the existing electoral system.

“When we look at those elected to Parliament and not elected, I do not think the voters made a wise choice,” he said.

He said that several former Parliamentarians who had faced allegations against them have been elected once again to Parliament.

The former Minister said that such characters can be seen, not just in the Sri Lanka Freedom Party but also in the United National Party.  (Colombo Gazette)

  1. True, Another epic fail, two wrongs don’t make a right despite good intentions. History will repeat itself. This is what our obsolete education system creates, well played.

  2. There will be riots if Sirisena and Ranil try to divide Sri Lanka. Many believe election results have been manipulated by a computer programme, and actual result is something else. Numbers do not add up in counts.
