A passenger was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning with foreign currency worth over Rs. 4 million.
The customs department said that the Sri Lankan male, aged 40, was arrested with UK Pounds 16,930.00, Qatar Riyal 8,050.00 and Euro 1,350.00 valued at Rs. 4,054,547.00 concealed in his hand luggage.
A resident of Batticaloa, the passenger had attempted to take the currency to Singapore on a Srilankan Airlines flight when he was arrested.
