Over 700 arrested in polls related police raids

The police said that over 700 people were arrested in election related raids conducted by the police from the time nominations were called for till yesterday.

According to the police media unit, 334 raids were conducted by the police and 739 people had been arrested.

The arrests had been made for violating election laws, the police media unit said in a statement today.

The police said that 408 complaints had also been received in relation to election law violations or violence and 185 suspects had been arrested.

The police had also seized 254 vehicles during this period. (Colombo Gazette)
