The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) led by Rishad Bathiudeen has suspended its party Generl Secretary Y.L.S Hameed.
Bathiudeen said that the Supreme Council of the party had decided today to suspend Hameed over allegations he had violated party discipline.
Hameed has been suspended after he had reportedly ignored warnings by the party leadership to avoid making comments against the United National Party.
Bathiudeen told reporters today that Hameed had been unhappy over the failure by the United National Party to give the ACMC two national list slots in Parliament.
The United National Party had promised the ACMC two national list seats but had later decided on one seat, as a result of which Hameed lost the opportunity to get into Parliament.
The ACMC had picked another member to fill the national list seat and Bathiudeen said that the party had no rift with the United National Party or the new coalition Government despite being given only one national list seat.
He however said that Hameed had shown his displeasure at the move and had spoken against the United National Party and its coalition partners despite being advised not to do so.
As a result, the ACMC has decided to suspend Hameed from his post and the party. (Colombo Gazette)
