Ranil to take oaths tomorrow as Prime Minister

Ranil MaithriUnited National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will take oaths tomorrow as Sri Lanka’s new Prime Minister, the UNP said today.

Wickremesinghe will take oaths before President Maithripala Sirisena.

Wickremesinghe topped the Colombo preferential votes list at the 2015 Parliamentary election with 500,566 votes.

He secured more votes than former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who had had received 423,529 votes in the Kurunegala District. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Ranil topped the votes list because all Tamils and Muslims also voted for him. Sirisena also brutally attacked hid own party SLFP so this votes do not represent the real picture. How come this man losing 29 times and won with big margin. Dirty politics by Sirisena abusing Presidential powers but wowed to abolish it withing 100 days!

    • @Kumara yes the minority didnt vote for MR, but doesnt that tell you a story? Everyone is willing to work with Ranil as PM but going with MR again simply means that the country is going backwards. How do you expect the president to work with someone whom he actually defeated in the presidential election? Both ranil and MR have their own flaws but you have to accept the fact that the lesser of the two devils is surely Ranil. Overall, the people have chosen who should and should not be in the parliment so you have to respect the peoples verdict. A government cannot be run by a bunch of hooligans!
