A mandate for Good Governance says PM designate

RanilPrime Minister designate Ranil Wickremesinghe says the victory achieved by the United National Party (UNP) at the Parliamentary election is a mandate given by the people for Good Governance.

Issuing a special statement, the Prime Minister said that the people have backed the revolution achieved on January 8 and want that to continue.

“I offer my grateful thanks to all parties and individuals who worked untiringly during the election period to ensure victory for the people. We have been able to create a peaceful atmosphere needed for a free and fair election,” Wickremesinghe said.

He also said that there should not be a division amongst people as winners and losers and that everyone should get together as the sons and daughters of Sri Lanka to the task of building a new political culture in this country.

“We have to unitedly work towards lifting the nation to a new height by facing challenges of the new era. I invite all of you to join hands with us to face the challenges of our Mission,” he said.

The UNP leader urged all Sri Lankans to unite to build a civilized society, build a consensual government and create a new country with equal opportunities for everybody. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Mahinda Deshappriya was fair in most occasions. But he was bias in the bad behavior of Sirisena. Actually Sirisena won election from votes of UNP, so he is not a genuine SLFP member. He shamelessly kept the leadership of SLFP/UPFA and acted like a lunatic to remove members from SLFP/UPFA, just before the election. This affected the voters who would support UPFA but Election commissioner did not take any action to stop the wrong doing of lunatic president.

    • Mahinda knows very well how far the executive power can go. Yet MY3’s hand was twisted by Mahinda and his gang to an extend to bounce back.

Mahinda will be happy to resign the MP post and retire but look 13 + 2 peoples lost their posts and the goodwill of MY3 due to Mahinda’s greediness.

Their political future is uncertain. Who to blame?

  2. Now lets wait to see how many ministers get appointed for UNP. Surely Ranil will appoint more ministers than Rajapaksa. Election promises are until winning the election.

  3. Sajith’s dream of becoming Prime Minister will not come true in near future. 29 time loser won on the 30th time.

  4. “create a new country with equal opportunities for everybody”

So you agree, Mr. Wickremesinghe, that the country has been lacking in these so far. Now be a little bit more precise. Tell the people what new policies you are going to follow in the coming years and how you think to find sufficient support in Parliament for them. Anyway, congratulations and good luck.

  5. RANIL, Pls remeber that the moment you talk about “Rata Bedima or Wishesa Balathala Uthurata ha negenhirata and try to re=merge North and East, your days will be numbered.

  6. At least we can call you now “legal Prime Minister” but UFPA is equally strong compared to UNP. You will become PM with the support of TNA but you will be like Indian PM Manmohan Singh who was 100% controlled by Jayalalitha.

    • Don’t talk nonsense Ranil is the elected PM of Sri Lanka by people, for people , rejecting Mahinda rajapakse

    • Accept the majority people’s verdict. I urge you to support and guide the winner. After all, he is the PM for you as well whether you like it or not.

  7. Congratulations Mr Ranil Wickremesinghe,

Be truthful to the people who have voted for you. Respect and value the intellectuals of this country. If you honour the people who voted for you and the intellectuals of this country; you will live longer in people’s minds and hearts than Prabhakaran or Mahinda.
