Polls end peacefully, over 70% turnout in most places

polls electionsThe 2015 Parliamentary election ended peacefully today with over 70% turnout recorded in most places and the counting of postal votes has now begun.

The Department of Elections said that only a few minor incidents had been reported from some areas today, mostly related to the violation of election laws.

Unofficial numbers on the voter turnout indicated that 70 percent of voters had cast their votes in Colombo, 70% in Matale, 70 % in Matara, 75 % in Hambantota, 70 % in Badulla, 70 % in Ratnapura, 75 % in Pollonaruwa, 68 % in Kurunegala and 60 % in Jaffna. (Colombo Gazette)
