Polls chief issues orders to seize vehicles

Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has issued orders to the police to seize State vehicles used by former Parliamentarians.

Deshapriya had issued the orders after he met secretaries of political parties at the Department of Elections today.

The Elections Commissioner has said that several former Parliamentarians who are in the Government are still using State vehicles for election work.

He has instructed the police to begin taking action against such former Parliamentarians from tomorrow. (Colombo Gazette)

Three members of notorious ?Aava? group arrested

Three members of the notorious ?Aava? group were arrested in Jaffna with two swords. The three suspects had reportedly been involved in an attack on two people recently. They had attached the two people using swords resulting in both of the suffering injuries. (Colombo Gazette)
