PM assures special courts to deal with rape

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe?said that special courts will be established to expedite cases over rape so that justice is not delayed.

The Prime Minister said that the next step will be to appoint a female officer as a police Deputy Inspector General (DIG).

He also said that a special commission will be established to ensure rape or sexual abuse does not occur in future.

The Prime Minister said that laws will also be strengthened to ensure the police do not go soft on those accused of rape.

Speaking at an election rally in Monaragala, Wickremesinghe said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had given a free hand to criminals to abuse women.

Wickremesinghe accused Rajapaksa over the Kahawatte incidents as well as rape incidents said to have taken place in the North.

The Prime Minister assured that under a Government led by the United National Party, women will be protected and their rights safeguarded. (Colombo Gazette)

The Ministry of Justice has cautioned the public of an islandwide scam being operated on the promise of providing jobs at the Ministry. Over 340 passengers arrive in Sri Lanka

Over 340 passengers arrived in Sri Lanka on four special flights today. The National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 (NOCPC) said 47 passengers arrived from the United Arab Emirates, three from Doha, 287 from Australia, and five from India.
