Open warrant reissued for Jaliya Wickramasuriya’s arrest

An open warrant was reissued today for the arrest of Sri Lanka?s former Ambassador to the United States, Jaliya Wickramasuriya. The warrant was issued over Wickramasuriya?s alleged involvement in the misuse of state funds. The Police Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID) had sough the warrant for?Wickramasuriya. Wickramasuriya is out on bail and was granted permission to travel overseas last July but he failed to appear before court since then. As a result an open warrant was issue

Former Army Commander Rohan Daluwatte passed away

Former Army Commander, General (retired) Rohan Daluwatte, passed away today. He was 77 years old at the time of his death. Daluwatte joined the Sri Lanka Army in 1961 as an officer cadet. On 1 May 1996, he was appointed as 13th Army Commander by former President Chandrika Kumaratunga. As commander, Daluwatte lead Operation Riviresa against the LTTE during Eelam War III. During his tenure in the Army he held important positions such as Chief Instructor of Officer Cadet School in ATC from 1979

Minneriya National Park temporarily closed following clash

The Minneriya National Park was temporarily closed today following a clash between wildlife officers and another group. The Wildlife Conservation Department said that the clash took place after a suspect was arrested over illegal fishing within the park premises. A group of men had attacked officers of the?Wildlife Conservation Department last night following the arrest. Six officers of the Wildlife Conservation Department were admitted to hospital following the incident. (Colombo Gazette)
