UPFA says Maithri-Ranil union will fail

The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) says a?union between President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be a failure.

UPFA Parliamentary candidate and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) spokesman Dilan Perera said that historically Wickremesinghe had failed to work with a President from a political party, other than the United National Party.

“Ranil Wickremesinghe is trying to say?these days that even if the UPFA?wins the election he is the only Prime Minister who can work with the President. But history has shown?Ranil Wickremesinghe cannot work with Maithripala Sirisena,” he said.

Perera said that when?Wickremesinghe was Prime Minister some years back, he was unable to work with the then President or even complete his full term in office.

However, Perera said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has shown that he is able to work with any President and so he is the most suitable to be the next Prime Minister. (Colombo Gazette)

EC informs court polls cannot be held on 20 June

The National Elections Commission (EC) has informed the Supreme Court that the Parliamentary election cannot be held on 20 June. Lawyer Saliya Peries (PC) appearing for the Election Commission submitted to the court that as of now the Election Commission feels that the General Election cannot be held on 20th June. Samagi Jana Balawegaya claims UNP set to join Government

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya claims the United National Party (UNP) is set to join the Government.
