Gold worth Rs 40 million confiscated at BIA

A Duty Free officer at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has been arrested while trying to smuggle out gold worth Rs 40 million. According to Customs Spokesman Sunil Jayaratne, Customs officers attached to the Narcotics Control unit of the BIA had detected 40 gold biscuits and one kilo of gold jewelry hidden on the person of the Duty Free officer. TNA to decide before end of this month

The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is to decide on the stand it will take at the Presidential election before the end of this month. The TNA has yet to decide which candidate it will support at the Presidential election on 16 November. The TNA and four other Tamil political parties have already signed a 13-point memorandum to be submitted to the Presidential candidates. According to the TNA, it will meet with the four Tamil parties before taking a final decision with regards to the election.

Anura Kumara will not support withdrawal of military from North

National People’s Movement (NPM) Presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake will not support calls to withdraw the military from the North.
