Court considers request to exhume Thajudeen’s body

Court has decided to consider a request to exhume the body of former Sri Lanka rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, the police said.
Police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that the CID had today made a request to court to exhume the body to conduct further investigations.
Gunasekera said that the court had decided to consider the request tomorrow. He said that the Attorney General’s Department had also appeared in court today when the request to exhume the body was made.
The CID informed court recently that it suspected murder over the death of the former Sri Lanka ruby player.
Thajudeen died on May 17, 2012 in Kirulapone when his car crashed into a wall.?According to police reports at the time, the rugby player was driving home after attending a party when he lost control of the car and crashed into a wall on Park Road. The car had exploded instantly and burnt the victim.
However suspicions arose later after it was reported that there could have been a political connection in?the death of Thajudeen.?(Colombo Gazette)
