Akram escapes unhurt after being shot at

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram was?shot at while travelling in his car to the National Stadum in Karachi today. He is safe, though, and the nature or motive behind the attack is not yet known, ESPN Cricinfo reported.

Akram told Express News, a Pakistan television channel, that was he was “in shock” and that he had noted the car number and given it to the police.

“Wasim was driving himself, and the car next to him tried to jam his car to one side and opened fire. He did not get hit, he is now at the National Stadium, dealing with police formalities.” Arsalan Hyder, Akram’s manager, told ESPNcricinfo.

Akram was in Karachi to work with emerging fast bowlers at a training camp at the National Stadium. (Colombo Gazette)

Three people killed in Maradana fire

Three people were killed following a fire at a bakery in Maradana this morning,?the police and fire brigade said. Police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said?that the fire was believed to have been caused by a gas-cylinder explosion at the?bakery. Musthapha appointed legal adviser to Maithri

Former State Minister and United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Faiszer Musthapha has been appointed as the legal adviser to President Maithripala Sirisena. Musthapha had extended support to Sirisena at the January 8 Presidential elections and was made a State Minister in the new Government. Howevere Musthapha later resigned from his post saying he wanted to focus on his legal career.
