JVP accuses TNA of using communal issue for votes

Tilvin-SilvaThe Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) today accused the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) of attempting to incite communal hatred in order to win votes at the Parliamentary elections this month.

JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said that the TNA had failed to meet the expectations of the Tamils in the North and so now they are attempting to use the communal issue to win votes.

Silva also said that the TNA election manifesto will go in favour of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa since the document speaks of a Federal solution and devolution of powers.

He said that hardline Sinhalese groups are opposed to a Federal solution and people like Mahinda Rajapaksa are now using that situation to win votes.

The also warned the public to be mindful of false promises being made by the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and its Prime Ministerial candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Silva said that the UPFA was making several promises to the State sector ahead of the August 17 Parliament election when it was the UPFA which ruined the State sector.

“During the Mahinda Rajapaksa administration we saw Rajapaksa using the State sector for the benefit of his family,” Silva said.

He said that the State sector began to operate at a huge loss as a result of some of the decisions taken by Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Government.

Silva also noted that the Mahinda Rajapaksa administration had used State sector employees for election work and for criminal activities.

“When Mahinda Rajapaksa was President he used the Sri Lanka Transport Board for every election and used the staff as well and did not pay them so the Sri Lanka Transport Board faced losses and it was ruined. Port sector employees were also used by Mahinda Rajapaksa when he was President and so were Road Development employees,” he said.

Silva also accused Rajapaksa of failing to address concerns and demands of the State sector employees when he was President. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. The Tamils living in pockets ,out side N/E and Colombo
in the country ,were planning to vote for JVP, as, so far they spoke for the rights of the minorities, specially their
charismatic leader Anura Dissanayake, but their latest
statement attacking TNA may change the voters minds.
and JVP will be the loser.TNA is there to look after the Tamils who are losing their rights rapidly and federalism
is the only solution to stop this. Fighting for a oppressed
class of people, is it communalism ? . JVP has some educated men in the party and can they answer why most countries including a smaller country like Switzerland run by federal system are a success. The answer is devolution of power to the people like in India
    our closest neighbour
Tilvin is asking what TNA has done for the Tamils and the Tamils want to ask him what successive govts.
have done for the Tamils thro’ TNA demands, as TNA is not the Govt. (the giver)

  2. Without pointing accusing fingers at everybody JVP must say whether they support UNP or oppose federalism. If oppose federalism JVP must not indirectly support UNP. Mahinda using TNA proposals for federalism to get additional votes is obvious because it was Mahinda who finished off terrorism and separatism from our motherland. When UNP had signed ceasefire agreements to placate terrorist group how can JVP align with such a group. If JVP now says that armed resistance ineffective because of mighty armies how can JVP align with a party that supported by signing agreements to demarcate the country ? Mahinda should openly carry forward what he started during is administration to finish off ALL kinds of terrorism. Yes Mahinda also had his fair share of drawbacks but his anti-terror attitudes stand tall while others groups and parties terror reign stands tall despite white washing.

  3. Not only TNA, Wignashwaran will do anything to destabilize Sri Lankan unity. He is also said to be involved in people smuggling business to get support from Diaspora, even though he has strong law background.

  4. TNA thrive on the racial agenda from its inception. Yet they point fingers at every one on the same issue. When the Tamils and Muslim can vote in a block for their agenda, why not Sinhalese. When JVP and UNP did promise of 10,000 rupees salary increase for public servants during the presidential election it was considered a just action. But now what is this ha ho when UPFA is suggesting some enhancement to public servants. Who is responsible for wanton destruction JVP did on public property and people on the two main insurrections and also several protest movements. JVP has no right to speak about anyone as they have done the worse damage to the country perhaps also being responsible for LTTE insurrection.
