Passenger arrested at BIA with 24 gold slabs

GoldA passenger returning from India was arrested at the Bandaranaika International Airport (BIA) this morning with 24 pieces of gold slabs.

The Sri Lankan male, aged 40, a resident of Akurana, was arrested following information given by the captain of the passenger plane he was traveling in.

A customs department spokesman said that the passenger had concealed the gold slabs valued at Rs. 12 million, in his bag.

He had arrived in Colombo from Mumbai in a Jet Airways flight this morning and he was to be handed over to the police for further investigations. (Colombo Gazette)
