A passenger returning from India was arrested at the Bandaranaika International Airport (BIA) this morning with 24 pieces of gold slabs.
The Sri Lankan male, aged 40, a resident of Akurana, was arrested following information given by the captain of the passenger plane he was traveling in.
A customs department spokesman said that the passenger had concealed the gold slabs valued at Rs. 12 million, in his bag.
He had arrived in Colombo from Mumbai in a Jet Airways flight this morning and he was to be handed over to the police for further investigations. (Colombo Gazette)
