Government to pay GK depositors this week

Ravi KThe government is to begin the disbursement of payments to the deposit holders of the defunct Golden Key Credit Card Company Ltd (GK) from July 24th, the Finance Ministry said today.

The cabinet of ministers gave its approval last week to the payment schedule proposed by the Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake through his interim budge in order to solve the long standing issues faced by the GK depositors. Accordingly, the depositors who have had their account balance up to Rs two million will be paid within one month from July 24th.

The General Treasury will provide Rs 544.3 million needed for this first tranche and the recovery of this fund will be made through the liquidation of the assets of the GK Ltd with the permission of the Supreme Court where a petition in this regard is being heard.

The Supreme Court had earlier given a ruling to pay 41 percent of the account balance to the depositors. Earlier in January this year, all depositors of the GK Ltd were given an interim payment up to Rs 300,000.00 irrespective of their account balance.

The Government has also decided to settle the dues of those who have deposits below Rs 10 million within the next two months and those of above Rs 10 million within one year. Accordingly, a further sum of over Rs 7000 million is needed and the Minister Karunanayake has proposed that funds for these payments could be recovered from liquidation of the assets of the Golden Key and the profits transferred from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

The new Government, in order to solve the long standing problems that existed in the non-banking financial institutions had stated that it would provide relief to depositors through the intervention of the CBSL and the Finance Ministry. The Finance minister along with Governor, CBSL held several discussions with the depositors’ association to arrive at a possible option to resolve the issue. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Central Bank of Sri lanka is not responsible for payment of Golden Key default.
That is responsibility of Celyon Group of companies led by Lalith Kotalawala and gang.

Why should Tax payers money and CB engaged of Golden Credit cared default payment.
This has nothing do with CB and Govt. of Sri lanka.

What I see is entirely wrong legal procedure by legal advice of Attorney General Department. and court of Sri lanka.

This wrong procedure adopted by of UNP-Ravi Karunaknya misusing public funds pay for business defaults different interest.

Crime and punishment has at last come to the poor Tax Payers of Sri lanka.
Is this’ rule of Law or Good Governance.
CB has to hand off Golden Key default issues.
That is non of your business.
I totally an opposed proposed that payment trough by the CB.

Must Immediately stop by UNP scandal oriented policies by Ranil Wickramisghe so-called minority misrule of UNP governances.

We are demanding that An appointment review overall policies of Golden Key default payment.

Lost of funds of GK is not an issue of Govt. Sri lanka , which GK funds need to review by Next Elected members of Parliament.

Why so much hurry by MoF of Ravi K…?
You have to wait another months?

Is not too late! Don’t misused power and authority by UNP -minority misrule.

  2. GK payment is another big scandal of CB behind by UNP-Ranil led govt. back by Ravi Karuanaugam of
    MoF.

We demand until next Parliament secession, must take this payment delay and issue has to be redress , until new Parliament.
Which is that payment should STOP BY UNP-RANIL-RAVI govt.
