Rajapaksa denies giving money to the LTTE

Mahinda RajapaksaFormer President Mahinda Rajapaksa has denied giving money to the LTTE adding that on the contrary it was he who defeated the LTTE.

The former President’s office said that JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake had said at an election rally that President Maithripala Sirisena had told him that if a Presidential Commission of Inquiry finds former President Rajapaksa guilty of having given money to the LTTE, he could be deprived of his civic rights.

“JVP speakers have been trying to mislead voters by saying that there was no point in voting for the UPFA because Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa could lose his civic rights. The public should be vigilant about such falsehoods being propagated by bankrupt politicians. Firstly, former president Mahinda Rajapaksa did not give money to the LTTE. On the contrary, it was he who defeated the LTTE. It was President Ranasinghe Premadasa who gave money and weapons to the terrorists. Secondly, no Presidential Commission has recommended that Mr Rajapaksa be deprived of his civic rights. Thirdly a Presidential Commission of Inquiry cannot deprive anybody of his civic rights unless parliament passes a resolution to that effect with a two thirds majority,” Rajapaksa’s office said in a statement.

The JVP leader also said that Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa had spent Rs. 35 million from the Siriliya Saviya charity run by her to buy a house.

“In an earlier press release, we have pointed out that Mrs Shiranthi Rakapaksa had bought a property in Colombo 5 on a loan. This loan appears in former President Rajapaksa’s assets and liabilities declaration as a liability. Siriliya Saviya money was not used to buy this property. Like other families, the Rajapaksa family also has assets as well as liabilities,” the statement said.

The former President’s office said that the JVP, which is spreading these falsehoods, is responsible for causing the deaths of around 70,000 youths and causing damage to property amounting to around Rs. 20 billion. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Some Sri Lankan political parties such as JVP should not be allowed to contest in elections. Even Pigs can talk better meaningful things than JVP. Most of JVP people in politics because they are poor so trying to get an easy job.
Rajapksa will never take LTTE on his side only Sirisena and JVP does not know this. Sirisena ios trying to divide the country so it is possible he make such comments. Now Sirisena should make this clear whether he said this or not. Only person should lose Civic rights is Ranil Wickramasinghe for his role in running illegal FCID.

  2. Sirisena is ruining the SLFP and UFPA. Sirisena won from 85% votes from UNP and 10% votes from Muslim parties/TNA; rest is JVP and only few SLFP etc. Still staying as the leader of SLFP, Sirisena is slowly destroying his own parties. Why Sirisena told JVP to attack Rajapaksa? Was it a part of Western conspiracy?

  3. This was only an excuse cooked up by Ranil to justify his loss in 2005 Presidential elections.
Only an idiot like Ranil can come up with an idea of paying Prabhakaran to get something done.
Who in his right mind would pay Prabhakaran knowing very well that Prabhakaran will only do what is good for him.

  4. Rajapasse would lie rob murder rape and pillage SRi Lanka just to get his own way, everybody knows this, this time around Passe wont be able to stuff the ballot boxes like the last time, and you idiots saying anything good about this scoundrel will be victimised by him
