Prime Minister’s office denies misusing office

The office of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesighe has denied allegations that the office has been misused for election propaganda work.

Transparency International Sri Lanka had written to the Elections Commissioner stating that the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) between the United National Party (UNP) and the political parties in the United National Front for Good Governance, was signed at the Prime Minister’s office at Temple Trees and that this was a violation of election laws.

However in a letter to?Transparency International Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister’s office said that the allegations were baseless.

The Prime Minister’s office said that the MOU was signed at the Prime Minister’s official residence and that his residence can be used for his personal work.

In the letter to?Transparency International Sri Lanka, the Prime Minister’s office also said that the MOU was based on the work to be carried out by the?United National Front after the August 17 Parliament election.

The Prime Minister’s office also said that legal opinion had also been sought before the MOU was signed to ensure election laws were not violated. (Colombo Gazette)
