Two convicts on death row in Welikada stage protest

Two convicts on death row at the Welikada prison staged a protest on the roof of the prison today. The two convicts demanded that they be set free after a murder convict was pardoned by President Maithripala Sirisena over the weekend. Royal Park murder convict Jude Shramantha Anthony Jayamaha was given a Presidential pardon on Saturday. The Prison?s Department said that he had been released after being granted the pardon. The draft Bill on the prevention of offences relating to sports was passed by Parliament today. The Bill was taken for debate during a special session convened today by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
