A container with scrap copper which was to be exported to Korea, was seized by the customs department today.
Customs department spokesman Leslie Gamini said that the scrap copper was valued at Rs. 1.5 Million and had been seized by the staff of the Export Division at the Export Facilitation Centre at Colombo-13.
On examination the officials found 2 M/T of scrap copper concealed in 40 bags of used computer parts.
A company in Sapugaskanda was preparing to export the goods to Korea by the vessel ‘ Athens Bridge’ on Saturday and not produced any valid export permits from the Central Environment Authority for the goods. (Colombo Gazette)
