Four fishermen belonging to Pushpavanam near Vedaranyam in Tamil Nadu sustained injuries in a mid-sea attack allegedly by “unknown persons” suspected to be from Sri Lanka on Sunday, The Hindu newspaper reported today.
The fishermen, Panneer, Anand, Rajeswaran and Ramasamy had ventured into the sea on a fibre boat on Saturday.
The incident reportedly occurred when they were fishing off Kodiakarai.
A Fisheries official quoting the complaint said that the accused persons, who were onboard a country craft that appeared to be from Sri Lanka, jumped onto the boat of fishermen and attacked them with wooden logs.
On return to the shore, the injured fishermen narrated the incident to the fishermen leaders of Pushpavanam. They have been admitted to the Government Hospital in Vedaranyam.
