Army officer suspended over fatal road accident

An army officer involved in a?fatal road accident, has been suspended from service with immediate effect, with no pay, the army media unit said.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army has suspended the service of the army officer involved in the fatal road accident in Gurubabila, Weligama, which claimed the lives of three people.

The vehicle in which the officer was travelling in collided with a three-wheeler killing three people?on Tuesday.

The Commander has directed the Provost Marshal Brigadier Gamini Sirisena of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police and Director Legal Colonel Edward Jayasinghe to conduct immediate investigations into the incident after which the officer will be produced before a Court Martial under the Judge Advocate General of the Army Brigadier Ranjith Rajapathirana.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva has also instructed the Military Police to provide every possible assistance to the Police to conduct investigations.
