Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) member and former Parliament opposition leader Nimal Siripala de Silva today confirmed that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will be contesting the Parliament elections from Kurunegala.
Nimal Siripala de Silva said that several United National Party (UNP) members have been asking him if Rajapaksa will contest the election.
He says he told the UNP members that Rajapaksa will contest from Kurunegala and that he will contest under the UPFA.
Nimal Siripala de Silva said that the UNP was expecting a major split in the SLFP and now they are disappointed as there was no such split.
Meanwhile, Rajapaksa is expected to sign his nomination papers to contest the polls with the UPFA tomorrow. (Colombo Gazette)
