The United National Party (UNP) says it hopes to adopt several key proposals at the special party convention to be held on Saturday.
Media Minister and former UNP Parliamentarian Gayantha Karaunathilake said that the proposals will include the policies to be adopted by the UNP following the August 17 Parliament elections.
“All UNP members have been invited for this convention,” he said.
Karaunathilake said that the UNP is confident of winning the August 17 election with a clear majority and will form the next Government.
The former UNP Parliamentarian said that the UNP will hold its first election rally for the August polls, in Kandy with the participation of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Karaunathilake said that the UNP nominations board will look to pick candidates who have a clean sheet and who are either experienced or young and talented.
The UNP will also set an example to others by ensuring Government resources are not used during the election campaigning period.
Meanwhile, Karaunathilake denied claims that the Government media was being misused ahead of the election and insisted that journalists at State media institutions have been given the freedom to write independently. (Colombo Gazette)
