Pivithuru Hetak National Council Chairman and Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) member, the venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thera, said that President Maithripala Sirisena had failed to take appropriate action against some corrupt politicians.
Speaking to reporters today, Rathana Thera said that the Government was given six months to arrest some of the politicians yet some of those attempts were blocked by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).
He said there was also an expectation that Parliament will be turned into a key decision making body on National reconciliation, but even that attempt ended in failure.
“The people are asking us if we had accomplished what we promised through goof governance,” the monk added.
The venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thera also said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa cannot be appointed President again.
He said that constitutional amendments approved by Parliament after the new Government took office ensures Rajapaksa is unable to be appointed an Executive President in future. (Colombo Gazette)
