Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) members met late this evening following the announcement that the UPFA had agreed to give nominations to Rajapaksa to contest the Parliament election.
The meeting took place at Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga’s residence.
Sources who were at the meeting told the Colombo Gazette that the UPFA members thanked President Maithripala Sirisena for agreeing to give Rajapaksa nominations.
The UPFA members also pledged to defeat the United National Party (UNP) at the August 17 Parliament election. (Colombo Gazette)
