No evidence to back any allegation against Dr. Shafi

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) informed the Parliament Select Committee on the Easter Sunday attacks today that there is no evidence to back the allegations against?Dr. Mohamed Shafi. Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekera told the PSC that there is no evidence to prove that the Kurunegala doctor performed illegal sterilization surgeries or has links to terrorist activities. Dr. Mohamed Shafi was arrested and remanded over the allegations against him.

Lorry driver who averted attack gets Rs 5 million reward

A lorry driver who had alerted the Police and helped avert another bombing following the Easter Sunday attacks, was presented a cash reward of Rs 5 million by President Maithripala Sirisena today. The Police gave the Rs. 5 million reward for the information and assistance the driver had provided. The driver had helped Police find a house in Kalmunai on April 26th where a bomber had been hiding with his family. At least 15 people including the suicide bomber were killed following an explosion

Navy arrests four Indian fishermen

The Sri Lanka Navy arrested four Indian fishermen and detained a fishing trawler for poaching in Sri Lankan waters. A Fast Attack Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command arrested the Indians during a patrol conducted in the sea area off the Kovilam Lighthouse. The fishermen were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for onward action, after a medical examination.
