SLFP, UPFA in key meeting with Maithri

Maithripala SirisenaThe Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is to have a key meeting with President Maithripala Sirisena this afternoon.

SLFP sources told the Colombo Gazette that opposition leader Nimal Siripala de Silva, SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayanth will take part in the discussions.

Sources said that at the meeting a decision is likely to be taken with regards to giving nominations to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to contest the August 17 Parliament elections.

Sirisena had already announced that nominations will be given to the former President but there is pressure on him to reverse that decision.

Well informed sources said that the SLFP and the UPFA will urge the President to give Rajapaksa nominations as promised as failure to do so could result in a split in the UPFA. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Rajapakse is absolutely corrupt,Sirisena knows it well’his credibility has suffered already,Rajapakse also had a murder charge against him Sirisena knows al this,so is the public
Can you believe this how can a corrupt and murderous man become the president ,a bloody joke, entire UPFA is corrupt, throw them out

    • Guess you do not know the meaning of allegation. An allegation is a formal claim against someone. It sparks an investigation that leads to someone being proven innocent or found guilty. The key is proven innocent or found guilty. Just cause there are allegations against MR it does not mean these allegations are true.

  2. Hope Sirisena will endorse Rajapaksa for leading the election campaign, otherwise it will be the second blunder he is going to do. Ranil says Sirisena won from UNP votes, so it is time to bring party together.
