Opposition leader and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) member Nimal Siripala de Silva was to formally communicate to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa the stand taken by President Maithripala Sirisena on giving nominations to Rajapaksa for the Parliament election.
Well informed sources told the Colombo Gazette that Nimal Siripala de Silva was to meet Rajapaksa this morning to communicate Sirisena’s stand.
Sources said that Sirisena had eventually agreed to give nominations to Rajapaksa from the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) or SLFP but not the Prime Minister post.
Sirisena had informed his position to the SLFP top brass yesterday and that decision was to be communicated to Rajapaksa today.
The President is the chairman of the UPFA and head of the SLFP. (Colombo Gazette)
