Airbus A-380 makes emergency landing at BIA

An Emirates Airbus A-380 with over 500 passengers on board, made an emergency landing at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning.

The airline was on its way to Dubai from Sydney when it made the emergency landing owing to a technical fault.

“Emirates flight EK413 from Sydney to Dubai… was diverted to Colombo due to a technical fault,” the airline said in a statement that gave no details about the nature of the problem.

The passengers on the plane were taken to local hotels while the airline addressed the technical issue. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Why it was not diverted to Mattala Airport, which purpose built for A-380 landing. It can be emergency landing but Mattala is being abandoned which is a waste of resources. This is a good example of getting wrong countries as friends, they never expect us to develop. Many LTTE supporters make comments against Mattala development as it is “what they want”

      • Yes .. we have set an example by constructing an airport dedicated for emergency landings, in Mattala. What a relief to global aviation industry !!!
