Eight Indians arrested with hidden gold

HandcuffsThe Customs Department arrested nine people including eight Indian Nationals at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning with gold in their possession.

According to a Customs Department spokesman, seven of the eight Indians had gold hidden in their rectums and were about to board a flight to Chennai.

Customs Department spokesman Leslie Gamini said that of the eight Indians, one person had gold weighing 59 grams concealed in his waist band, another a gold chain without a loop, weighing 100g, concealed in his rectum, another had two pieces of gold, weighing 77g, concealed in his rectum, another person had a gold chain without a loop, weighing 100g, concealed in his rectum, another person had one gold chain without a loop, weighing 100g, concealed in his rectum, one person had a gold piece and a chain, weighing 60g, concealed in his rectum, another person had two parcels containing four pieces of gold, weighing 266 grams, concealed in his rectum and another person had two parcels containing two chains without loops, weighing 141 grams also concealed in his rectum.

The customs department said that the total value of the gold was Rs. 4, 520,000.00 and further investigations were underway. (Colombo Gazette)
