Rajitha insists MR will not get nominations for polls

RajithaThe United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) will not give nominations to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the forthcoming general election, UPFA Parliamentarian and cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said.

Senaratne said this at the weekly post cabinet press briefing held at the Government Information Department today.

“A six-member committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party discussed this matter with President Maithripala Sirisena last evening. President Maithripala Sirisena will never field Rajapaksa as the prime ministerial candidate. There will be no chance for him to enter parliament through the National List as well,” the Minister added.

A committee comprising of six members of the SLFP was appointed to coordinate between President Maithripala Sirisena and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa with regards to the future affairs of the UPFA.

The committee was appointed during a meeting held this week to discuss the prevailing political situation in the country and the future political course of the SLFP. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Rajitha
your conduct is most unbecoming for man who graduated from uni of Pera where i also had the privilege to study not as “dat dostara”, but from other side of Mahaweli, from Kammala, but was a contemporary.
first ,you having served in Rajapaksa cabinet and enjoyed all privileges and man who abused his position to earn millions ,now do not act like a saint.
you are only mouth piece of Chandrika and her rep “compassionate aide”.
pl tell me, as a man of some so called education but mean in conduct ( according to my noble lord Buddha) only by conduct and conduct alone one become Bhahamin (high) or Wasala (low ), what right compassionate fellow has the ethcal right to take the leadership of SLFP and UPFA after he left the party surreptitiously and betrayed the party by defeating the legitimately selected Mahinda and subsequently come back and dancing to the tunes of Ranil to show is eternal gratitude by giving the opportunity to become President ,which he would not have dreamt in his wildest dreams.
in our more 2000 years of history, In my opinion Mahinda service to our motherland is perhaps exceed that of Dutugamunu.Mahinda despite all international presure, did not care two hoots american and British guys and eliminated LTTE,giving us peace.
    who else is more suitable,

  2. Why everyone worry about Rajapaksa? People will decide who is most suited for Sri Lanka in the election. Democracy should be protected as you conspired against Sri Lnka during Tamil Tiger war by joining them. Yahapalanaya has given nothing to country except useless people like you were given ministerial posts to ruin Sri Lanka. It is certain Sri Lnaka needs a leader of Rajapaksa caliber. There is not a single one at the time. Don’t worry about corruption until you demonstrate which president was not corrupted.

    • You are absolutely right Tony. The people will decide whether they want Rajapakse back or not, and not stupid guys like Senaratne who only shoot their foot with their mouths.
