Maldives recruits UK law firm to strengthen democracy

Cherie-BlairThe Maldives Government has appointed a top UK law firm, Omnia Strategy LLP, to advise the Government for strengthening the legislative framework of the Government as part of the government’s broader strategy for democracy consolidation in the country.

Omnia Strategy is an international legal and advisory firm chaired by international human rights barrister Cherie Blair, the wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

A statement issued by the Maldives High Commission in Colombo said the Maldives Government’s decision to employ an international legal and advisory firm underscores the Government’s commitment to strengthen democratic institutions of the State and to promote a culture of respect for human rights in the Maldives, adhering to international norms, while retaining its unique character.

Omnia Strategy is a pioneering international law firm that provides strategic counsel to governments, corporates and private clients.
