Foreign Ministry unaware of Obama visit

Obama_0490e_image_1024wThe Foreign Ministry today said that it was unaware of a visit to Sri Lanka by US President Barack Obama being scheduled this year.

Minister and United National Party Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella had said yesterday that while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Secretary of State John Kerry had already visited Sri Lanka, US President Barack Obama is expected to visit Sri Lanka by the end of this year.

However Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mahishini Colonne said that the Foreign Ministry is unaware of such a visit being confirmed.

“We are not aware of a visit at this time by the US President,” she said.

She that the Foreign Ministry understands there is a possibility President Obama may visit Asia later this year.

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson also said that Sri Lanka will welcome a visit to Sri Lanka by President Obama as that would be the first visit to Sri Lanka by a US President. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. No need to tell to Sri lankan Authorities now. All agreed upon during Presidential election campaign. Sri Lanka is becoming a part of America.

  2. Sirisena spent a lot of Sri Lankan money to travel around, mainly finding ways to victimise Rajapaksa on financial fraud. The last attempt was asking from America, but America took the opportunity to catch Sirisena in their trap. Now the big boss is coming.

    • Sirisena travels cheap, and let us not forget that Obama is one of the most decent American Presidents ever, although “mistakes” made by him have become more obvious recently.

      These two Presidents are both handling tricky situations. Would we fare better if placed in their chairs?
