Southern Provincial Council member D V Upul, who was arrested last week, was released on bail today.
Upul however cannot leave the country until investigations being conducted on an alleged statement he had made, are over.
The CID had last week recorded a statement from Upul and later arrested him over an alleged threat he had made to the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID).
Upul had reportedly said that if former President Mahinda Rajapaksa returns to power the public must attack the FCID.
The Southern Provincial Council member however denied making the comments.(Colombo Gazette)
