Provincial Council member Upul released on bail

Southern Provincial Council member D V Upul, who was arrested last week, was released on bail today.

Upul however cannot leave the country until investigations being conducted on an alleged statement he had made, are over.

The CID had last week recorded a statement from Upul and later arrested him over an alleged threat he had made to?the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID).

Upul had reportedly said that if former President Mahinda Rajapaksa returns?to power the public must attack the FCID.

The?Southern Provincial Council member however denied making the comments.(Colombo Gazette)

Number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka crosses 14,000

The number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka has crossed the 14,000 mark. The Health Ministry said that 14,285 coronavirus patients have been detected in Sri Lanka so far. Of the 14,285 there are 5370 active patients in Sri Lanka as of this evening while 8880 people have recovered. Sri Lanka has so far recorded 35 coronavirus related deaths. (Colombo Gazette)

SJB accuses Government of concealing actual number of dead
