Passenger arrested at BIA with USD 35,000

hand-cuffs-police-lights6A passenger was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning with USD 35,000 in his baggage.

The customs department said that the Sri Lankan man, aged 29, was arrested at the departure lounge of the airport.

He was about to board a plane to Singapore when the money was found concealed in his baggage. Further investigations are underway. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Boat people go to Australia has more than 50,000 dollars in cash with them but there is no law to catch them as they have obtained letters from human rights groups to prevent them get arrested. Ironically these wealthy Boat people are from North part of Sri Lanka, and only Sri Lankans know how they got money.

    • More importantly the money laundering aspect of this case should be investigated together with how the money was made and how much taxes paid.
