National Freedom Front (NFF) leader and United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa today slammed the meeting the Government had with the Global Tamil Forum (GTF) in London.
Weerawansa said that while the opposition has no issued with the Government meeting democratically elected Tamil representatives, it has an issue with the Government meeting banned groups.
The GTF was listed by the former Government over alleged links with the LTTE and Weerawansa said that Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera must be arrested for meeting the GTF.
Samaraweera had met the GTF in London over the weekend to discuss the immediate needs of the Tamils in the North and East and how the diaspora can help to meet those needs.
Weerawansa said that there is now a clear attempt to allow the international community to interfere in Sri Lanka’s domestic affairs.
The MP also slammed Subinay Nandy, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Sri Lanka, saying, in a statement issued last week he had referred to the Northern Provincial Council as the Northern Province Government.
Weerawansa said that there is only one Government in Sri Lanka and no Provincial Council can be called a Government. (Colombo Gazette)
