Heavy rain, strong winds expected today

There will be several spells of showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today, the department of meteorology said.

It said that thundershowers will develop at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the afternoon or evening.

Strong winds can be expected over the country (particularly over hilly areas) and surrounding sea areas at times.

The department of meteorology said that there may be temporary localized strong winds during the thundershowers.

It urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
