Court seeks probe on calls made by Jaffna suspects

The Kayts Magistrate today ordered the police to investigate and submit a report on the telephone calls made by the suspects involved in the Jaffna rape and murder incident.
The nine suspects arrested over the rape and murder of?Sivaloganathan Vithya, were further remanded today till June 15.
The suspects were produced before the?Kayts Magistrate?today when?the case into the murder was heard.
During the hearing, which lasted for an hour, the police made submissions with regards to the murder.
The Kayts Magistrate then ordered a report into the telephone calls made by the nine suspects, to be produced in court.
The Magistrate had also asked the suspects if they had anything to say. The suspects had denied involvement in the murder and one suspect said that he was in Colombo and had withdrawn cash from an ATM in Colombo on the day of the murder.
The Magistrate then ordered the police to obtain CCTV footage of the ATM the suspects claims to have used. (Colombo Gazette)
