Rain expected in several places today

The Department of Meteorology says there will be several spells of showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts today.

It said that thundershowers will develop at a several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the afternoon or evening.

Strong winds can be expected over the country (particularly over hilly areas) and surrounding sea area at times.

The Department of Meteorology also said that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the deep sea area off the east coast. Showers will occur at several places in the sea area extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be South-westerly and speeds will be between 20-40 kmph. Winds can strengthen up to 50-60 kmph at times.

The sea area around the island will be rough at times.

Ukraine, Sri Lanka to create intergovernmental commission

Ukraine and Sri Lanka will sign an agreement on the establishment of a joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, Kyiv Post reported.
