President returns after official visit to Japan

President Maithripala Sirisena returned to Sri Lanka last night after concluding an official visit to Japan. This was his last visit as head of state before the Presidential election. The President, accompanied by a 21-member delegation was in Japan to attend the coronation of the Emperor of Japan, Naruhito in Tokyo from October 22-23 at the invitation of Japanese Government.

One year after political crisis PM urges protection of democracy

One year after the political crisis Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today urged the country to put party politics aside and protect democracy in the country. The political crisis which erupted on 26 October last year saw Wickremesinghe being removed as Prime Minister and the cabinet also being sacked. President Maithripala Sirisena appointed Mahinda Rajapaksa as the new Prime Minster but the move was challenged by Wickremesinghe and Parliament. Eventually the move was found to be illegal

Police raid two brothels in Seeduwa and Katana

The Police raided two brothels operating in Seeduwa and Katana and arrested sex workers employed at both locations. The Police said that a brothel operating as an Ayurveda Spa was raided in Seeduwa after obtaining a court order. Following the raid the Police arrested the manager of the Spa and a woman engaged in the sex trade. The Police also raided a brothel operating as an Ayurveda Spa in Katana and arrested a suspect and two women engaged in the sex trade. Further investigations are under
