Parliament proceedings were adjourned till tomorrow following a tense situation which arose over the Central Bank Governor.
When sittings commenced today the opposition put forward a no-confidence motion on Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran and demanded that he be removed from his post.
A heated debate later took place between the Government and the opposition and Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakody then suspended sittings for 10 minutes.
When sittings resumed the tense situation continued and sittings were suspended for 15 minutes.
Proceedings resumed again but the tense situation remained and the Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella then proposed that Parliament be adjourned till tomorrow.
