Government says no pressure from the diaspora

tamil-diaspora-protests-sri-lanka-genocide-state-terrorThe Government says Sri Lanka has not faced pressure from the Tamil diaspora after the January 8 Presidential elections.

Cabinet spokesman and Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said that earlier there were reports of the diaspora staging protests in foreign countries against Sri Lanka.

However, as the country prepares to commemorate six years since the end of the war, Senaratne noted that the diaspora has gone silent since the Government is addressing the concerns of the Tamils.

“Earlier the media reported on the Tamil diaspora protesting near the UN and other places. Now we dont see such media reports,” the Minister noted.

He said that he did not feel events held in the North this week to commemorate the victims of the war was a commemoration of the LTTE.

Senaratne also noted that the war victory celebrations to be held next week will be a commemoration of all the victims of the war and not just the army. (Colombo Gazette)
