Final report on 20-A on the 20th

RajithaA Cabinet sub-committee has been appointed to produce the final report on the proposed 20th Amendment to the constitution.

The final report is to be presented to the Cabinet when it meets on the 20th of this month, the Government said today.

Cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said that the Cabinet which met with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday had appointed the sub-committee.

The sub-committee consists of Ministers Sarath Amunugama, S.B. Dissanayake, Lakshman Kiriella, Kabir Hasheem, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Rauff Hakeem, Gayantha Karunatillake, P. Digambaram and Rishad Badurdeen.

The 20th Amendment to the constitution proposes a new electoral system which was an election pledge of President Maithripala Sirisena.

Senaratne said that political parties had time till yesterday to submit amendments to the electoral reforms proposal which was approved by Cabinet earlier.

He said that Cabinet discussed at length the proposals yesterday after which it was decided to appoint the committee to submit the final report next week. (Colombo Gazette)
