Fernando resigned from his UNP Parliament seat in August 2014 to contest the Uva Provincial Council elections but he lost the top spot to UPFA candidate Shasheendra Rajapaksa who was eventually made Chief Minister.
However this year, after the new Government came to power, Fernando obtained majority support to be made the Chief Minister.
Fernando told reporters today that he only wanted to be the Chief Minister for 100 days but he received an extra few days since Parliament elections have not yet been held.
However he said once Parliament is dissolved he hopes to contest the next Parliament election and return to Parliament. (Colombo Gazette)
