President says no pressure from US

Maithripala-SirisenaPresident Maithripala Sirisena says the Government is not facing any pressure from the United States on Sri Lanka’s foreign policy.

Speaking at an event today, the President recalled that US Secretary of State John Kerry had said the US only wants to ensure that democracy and human rights are protected in Sri Lanka.

The President said that Kerry had made this clear during his recent visit to Sri Lanka. Kerry had talks with the President when he was in Sri Lanka.

Sirisena said that Kerry had noted that the US had no concerns over which country Sri Lanka has relation with. (Colombo Gazette)
