The early warning centre of the Department of Meteorology has issued a severe weather advisory for the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces.
The Department of Meteorology said that due to the activation of south-west monsoon showery weather will continue in the western, southern, sabaragamuwa and central provinces.
It said that heavy rain falls (more than 100 mm) are also expected at some places.
The Department of Meteorology also said that there is a high possibility of wind speeds over the island and over the sea areas around the island increasing.
Meanwhile the Department also said that the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Galle and Matara may be very rough at times and dangerous as the winds can be strengthen up to 70kmph (very strong)at times.
Other sea areas around the island will be rough at times and wind speeds may increase up to 50-60kmph (strong) at times.
