Election monitors say postal voting for the three provinces held yesterday and today were largely peaceful with only some minor incidents reported.
The Peoples Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) said that in Killinochchi there were reports of a female candidate threatening civil defence force members to vote for her.
The Executive Director of PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachi said that there were also some incidents reported from Kulliyapitiya, Allawa and Chilaw.
“However overall our monitors observed that the postal elections for the Northern, Central and North Western Provinces were peaceful,” he said.
He also said that officers from the Department of Elections had also closely monitored the postal voting. (Colombo Gazette)
